My idea is to compare several references through their front outline, side contour, and gaps around the ears. The short haircut reference I am starting with is pixie haircut and I would welcome other useful references. A first step might be marking the outer contour before looking at the forehead overlap and the empty spaces nearby. Only after that would we add a few directional marks to suggest texture without filling every area with lines.
